A big fuss on media about how most millennials today had suffered from depression and anxiety may sound scary to think about. Unfortunately, it’s a reality we can’t avoid. The social pressure, either be successful or known to the public—or at least surrounding and caught up in same endless routines have made some young generation struggling hard and easily triggered depression to stop by. A well-curated post displays fancy things on social media even make it worse. But, if you think every door is closed, maybe it’s time for you to learn about slow living.
So, what is slow living? In short, slow living is a determination to achieve balance in life, to paid attention on what’s really important to you. It provokes self-awareness and mindfully life to find balance you actually needed. As Nathan William, co-founder of Kinfolk magazine said on his interview with Dezeen.com, “Slow living not so much in the way of kicking back and hammocks with cocktails, but more taking the time to really think about what you want to be doing and what feels most beneficial, which is a fairly subjective way of thinking”. Sometimes, we tend to focused what others said instead our voice or distracted by the routines that blurred out the thing we supposed to cherish most. Eventually, those scenes made us forgot how to actually living and worst, depression. With focusing on the valuable things in life, slow living surely helps us to see much clearer about how to live well.
However, sometimes slow living being misunderstood as a ‘healthy’ lifestyle or everything has to be organic kind of thing. Being vegan or participated in go-green movement to save the environment are just a glimpse of slow living. The true slow living movement relies on how we can value our life and choosing the right priority that leads to balance. Like, managing your time properly to spend on between your job/routines and the people that care about you or letting go others opinion and start to embrace your own are things considered as the act of slow living. Besides priority, to enjoy the process rather than rapid up to the result and choose quality over quantity are also part of the slow living movement. These values are beginning to be adopted in other field, say slow fashion, slow money, and slow medicine.
Slow living has a big role in order to give a new perspective to relive the meaning of living and it has been proved to give a good impact on those who’s join the movement. Rethinking about the true priority and what’s best for our self are the first step to grasping the notion of slow living. Keep in mind that slow living not just a lifestyle, it’s a way of life.
